I was remembering my school days on this Teachers Day and thought to myself how big of an impact can a good teacher have on someone's life. So I am sharing my life experience and impact of a single person on my life.
I was a below average student until 6th grade but then came this science teacher and I still vividly remember that first class. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants, a thin male in his late twenties or early thirties and I remember that I was not at all interested in the class and was waiting for the lunch break so that I can eat the 'kachoriis' I have in my tiffin box . But then he started talking and he didn't ask us for the science book like every other teacher does, he just started talking and he told us to question everything you see like if you see the sky is blue so question why it is only blue why it's not red green or yellow. I remember how i thought what a silly question it was when he asked if we knew why do you see my pant in black color and my shirt in white color but then he explained the reasons behind it and our minds were blown... it was some serious science shit for a sixth grader . He told us that everything in this world has a reason and the word 'Why' is your weapon, you should always try to question everything by just keep adding Why to everything and if there is no answer to your why then that topic is open for you to research and find out and this is how the scientists work. The class went on and he told us many more new cool things. This was one of the best classes I have ever had in my life in terms of the amount of knowledge I gained in an hour.
This one class has such a big impact on me that even after the school ended when I was in my way to home (on foot for like 1 KM) I was questioning everything I was seeing, I saw some 'Jalebiis'(Don't Know the English word for this ) getting made and I thought to myself what makes them fluff up in the oil and fill all the sugar syrup inside; then as I was walking in the sun I started feeling hot and I questioned why I was feeling hot, I got to know the answers afterwards. So the point I am trying to make is that he helped me to develop an attitude of questioning everything around me which is so important for every student because now I never had to remember anything I just asked why this was happening and to know the reason either I had to ask someone or read the book and when I got to know the reason I could write the answer to any problem in my own language. This attitude does not help you just in your academics but also in your daily life and whatever job you are doing and its still helping me in everything and anything I do. You need to ask as many questions as you can and get to the bottom of whatever you are working on then only you will truly know the topic or whatever that you are working on.
I wish everyone gets a teacher like him in his childhood because this age (5-15) is like foundation years of your personality and attitude which you would have for the rest of your life. You can mend it in whatever way you like and it could shape or break your life. I am not saying that you can't change it afterwards but according to me it's much difficult in the later part of one's life.
So that was the impact of just one teacher in my life and there many more stories but I am too lazy to write all of them :) maybe some other day if this one gets a good response.
(P.S.- Sorry for the long post just got carried away and please forgive me for any grammatical mistakes as I am too lazy to review and go through all of this again and correct them )
