Open Letter to Maeve

A little background, Maeve is one of my favorite character on the Netflix show SexEducation and I wrote this while waiting for 12 o'clock to wish one of my friend Happy Birthday.

Dear Maeve,

It's almost midnight and I'm waiting for one of my friend to join her virtual birthday celebration. Ya, don't ask, it's a 2020 thing now.

And just like you, I think birthdays are quite pointless. I really do... however I give in to the excitement of others and to make them happy like you do 

Don't we all secretly agree? Are we SERIOUSLY celebrating turning a year OLDER?

*Sigh* What even?

But if I was to try and think of the only good part, it has to be the cakes, presents and late night parties  right?

So when I saw Aimee bake you a cake for your birthday (let's pretend it was a proper cake) and Otis getting you a planner with your birth date pages torn off. I was rooting. Genuinely rooting for you to either fall in love with Aimee (YES, AIMEE. 'CAUSE WHY NOT?) or obviously, our beloved, Otis. But  this is me after watching both the seasons of the show.

When I first pressed play on Sex Education, I wasn't expecting to resonate with or root for, a 'quintessential badass'. The pink-haired 17 year old who had her walls and middle fingers held high with a smile so rare, it almost felt sarcastic.

But through the two seasons, I've realized the unique blend of your essence.

You're saucy but also, brainy. You're subtle but also, forthright. And lastly, you're guarded but also, painfully realistically vulnerable. And with this rawness? It's almost impossible to root against you.

Back when Jackson asked, what your thing was and you said, "Complex female characters". I was half expecting it to be your trick to sound smart but (OMG WHAT), that wasn't the case. Because through it all, we saw you standing by and admiring the complex female characters around you.

Be it saving Ruby from going through a traumatic experience and standing up to say, "It's my vagina"

Ingraining the thought, "it's just a stupid bus" in everyone and Aimee's mind when she couldn't get herself to board the bus after the grim and dreadful incident.

or lastly, even helping her absentee mother who struggled with addiction.

But wait, do we really have a definition for complex female characters? 'Cause we are all complex in our own stupid way. Maybe that's what makes us like them, no?

So before I sign off, I'd like to tell you, I also like 'Complex Female Characters' like you .

Utopia Review: Amazon's Conspiracy Thriller about a Pandemic

Surprisingly entertaining and too violent for its own good, Utopia , an Amazon series created by the same writer of the novel Gone Girl (which was also converted into a great movie),  is a spookily timely, wild and elaborate conspiracy theory thriller set in the dark, dystopic, pandemic-hit world. A contagious virus with no vaccine, and big pharma companies scrambling to make millions. No these are not headlines from a newspaper. These are the plot arcs from Amazon Prime Video’s latest show Utopia . The first thing you see in Utopia on prime video is a disclaimer claiming that this is a work of fiction and not based on true or current events. This would make you think that the show took inspiration from the current pandemic but let me inform you  that this show is a remake of a 2013 British television show and even the shooting of this show was completed well before the pandemic hit. But the use of words like pandemic, quarantine zone, PPE kit, viral load and...

Story of My Solo Trip to Lansdowne

A Solo trip was one of the things that I had wanted to do for a long time, I wanted to feel th quiet of nature and just sit in front of a great view surrounded by nature in solitude and just enjoy t wind on my face, enjoy the natural voices and forget all the shit that has been going on in my life. But there were always some distractions or fears that forced me to procrastinate my plans.  So one fine day at 3 am in the morning (don’t ask me why I was awake till 3 am that’s another story 😜) I don’t know what came on to me and I said to myself “ Khud ko ch*tiya banana band kar aur abhi ticket book kr wrna kbhi nhi japayega, hmesha tere bahane chlte rhege ”. So I did all the planning and booked the return tickets and the hotel as well on the same night. The effect of this was from the next day I forgot all about the sh*tstorm my life was at the time and all I could think about the trip, how will I reach there, what would I do there, what are all the places there t...
